Daily Lives of a Dry Cleaner – Episode 2: When a Beloved Plush Toy Comes In for a Spa Day🐻

Recently, we received a rather adorable guest at Cloud Story💙.

A giant Stitch plush toy arrived for cleaning, carefully packed and ready for what we like to call a "spa retreat".

Looking at the smile on our customer's face when dropping it off reminded us of something we often forget: soft toys are not just toys.

For many people, they are childhood companions, travel buddies, comfort objects, and sometimes treasured gifts from loved ones.

Unlike ordinary laundry, these items often carry memories and sentimental value that cannot be replaced. This also means that cleaning a soft toy is very different from cleaning a shirt, a bedsheet, or even a curtain.

One question we often receive is why soft toy cleaning can take anywhere from one to two weeks. The reason is surprisingly simple. While the exterior of a plush toy may feel dry shortly after washing, the stuffing hidden deep inside can still retain moisture for an extended period of time.

If that moisture is trapped inside, it can create an environment where bacteria, mould, and unpleasant odours may develop. This is why proper drying is one of the most important parts of the cleaning process. Rather than rushing the job, we prefer to give each toy sufficient time to dry thoroughly before returning it to its owner.

In a way, it is less of a quick wash and more of a spa retreat.

Another thing we are frequently asked about is stain removal. While we always do our best to improve the appearance of stains, some marks may have already penetrated deep into the fabric fibres over time. Attempting to aggressively remove them can sometimes cause damage to the fabric, affect colours, or compromise the condition of the toy itself.

For that reason, our priority is always safe cleaning and preservation. After all, for most owners, protecting a beloved companion is far more important than achieving a perfect cosmetic result.

Working in the laundry and dry cleaning industry constantly reminds us that our job is not always about clothing. Sometimes we are entrusted with items that hold years of memories:
